La gazza ladra

I’ve used a lot of incidental birds in the music composition, because I think in a world without any means of electronically reproducing music birdsong must have been much more important.

That said, I don’t think corvids are the most tuneful of birds

But I’ve always had a soft spot for magpies, they’re kind of like the spivs of the bird world. I mean, if you were wandering around wartime London in between blitzes, and a magpie sidled up to you and offered to sell you a dodgy pair of nylons it wouldn’t seem the slightest bit incongrous, would it?

And besides, who doesn’t like a bit of Rossini now and then?

  1. You’ve conjured up a wonderful image. I’ll be very disappointed if the next magpie I see doesn’t sidle up and offer all sorts of dubious delights!
