Chelles test again

thanks to those of you who kindly dug out your museum guidebooks for extra information on this piece, I now know for certain that this version of the chelles purse isn’t correct.

I think I would have figured as much by now though. I mean, the stitch is ok for the period, but it looks wrong. The texture is off.

it’s cute, and I’m going to finish it, and then do the correct, underside couched version, but it doesn’t look enough like the photos

Outlining might help when I get that far

I do like tightly packed stem stitch as a filler, even if this particular version is looking more and more machine stitched. I’ve only had an evening to work on her so far, so I haven’t got to her face.
