I never win anything

so I didn’t bother going to the NEC when the three living and the three dead was shortlisted for the fine art textiles award.

(plus, driving anywhere near brum. yuck. I mean I’m not a nervous driver and I have driven there several times, but not if I can avoid it. Some places just aren’t worth the bother *stares hard at Leeds city centre)

and then it won “innovative use of textiles” which was nice.

and surprising, because see above.

I was hoping Brenda Scarman was going to be there to speak for me at the award ceremony (she’s much more presentable than me anyway, cos all modern clothes make me look like I slept in a hedge, and for some reason I only scrub up nice in fashions pre 1700 or so) but she wasn’t there that day either.

I shall see the whole thing at Harrogate in a month or two. (I still haven’t been able to find out who won the main prize though)

I’d almost entered lady and cat instead, but decided it wasn’t serious enough, looking at the shortlist lady and cat definitely wasn’t serious enough, because it’s very very silly.

now I need to get something into the royal academy summer exhibition, but that’s been eluding me.

  1. A well-deserved win for a wonderful piece of work!
(The NEC is best approached by train, by the way, next time you need to go there and collect a prize or two.)

  2. Well done! Must confess that this is one of my favourites — technique, obviously, but the observed detail is fabulous, very funny and spot on.

  3. Congratulations Tanya. Well deserved, and high time your skills were recognised.
And I completely agree with avoiding Birmingham, Leeds, and all points populous. I prefer to share my road space with fluffy sheep rather than two legged ones šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

  4. Congratulations. I love this one and am so glad it was recognised!

  5. SO very well done Tanya. You are so skilled, this piece is a clever social comment not just another “little piece of women’s work” and deserves recognition. Go Girl. x

  6. A very well deserved win – and I very much second Sue’s comment about the NEC by train. Except that there’s a strike on…

  7. So well deserved!
Millions of claps, cheers and hugs

  8. Congratulations. Fabulous news and I am so pleased for you. I love your work.
